Florida Hospital New Smyrna Recognizes Nurse with DAISY Award

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla., October 15, 2018 – Florida Hospital New Smyrna recognized registered nurse William Stacy with the DAISY award.

The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care provided by nurses. Created in 1999, more than 2,400 healthcare facilities in all 50 states, as well as 14 other countries, use the DAISY Award to honor nurses.

Stacy is a nurse on Florida Hospital New Smyrna’s emergency department.

He was nominated for the award by the husband of a patient who brought his wife to the emergency department with severe abdominal cramps.

“We were quickly attended by nurse William Stacy, who took care of my wife and kept close contact with updates and expectations to ease any anxiety… The ER was busy and obviously short-staffed due to apparently an unforeseen injury to a staff member,” the patient’s husband wrote in a nomination form. “Having been in law enforcement for 35 years, I have seen chaos in the ER many times and how an unprofessional or discontent staff can make it seem even worse. Nurses like William Stacy are what makes a good ER better and an uncomfortable experience tolerable.”

In recognition of this honor, Stacy received a vase of daisies, an award pin, a tote bag, and a hand-carved stone sculpture of the “Healer’s Touch” by artists of the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe. His unit also received cinnamon rolls and a DAISY banner to display.
