Memorial Service Recognizes, Remembers Unmarked Graves Found at Florida Hospital DeLand

DELAND, Fla., August 15, 2017 — Beneath a moss draped tree, Florida Hospital DeLand hosted a special service in the hospital’s memorial garden on Aug. 15, honoring the unmarked graves that were found during construction to expand the hospital’s cardiac catheterization in July 2014.

The event also coincided with the two-year anniversary of the opening of the $3.5 million, 6,740-square-foot expansion to Florida Hospital DeLand’s cardiac catheterization lab.

Florida Hospital DeLand Donates Backpacks, Supplies to Local Elementary School

DELAND, Fla., August 14, 2017 — On Aug. 10, Florida Hospital DeLand hosted a blessing ceremony for nearly 200 backpacks that were donated to first graders at Edith I. Starke Elementary.

Employees gathered with Florida Hospital DeLand chaplain Dan Ocampo to pray over the backpacks, which were filled to the brim with pencils, notebooks and various other school supplies.

Most of the students who attend Starke Elementary School in DeLand are from an impoverished population; approximately 99-percent of the students receive free or reduced lunch. Read more…

Babies Reunite with NICU Staff, Celebrate Growth

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., August 11, 2017 – On Aug. 6, Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center celebrated the one year anniversary of the opening of the Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with a special reunion.

Since opening its doors in August 2016, Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center’s NICU has cared for nearly 220 newborns.

During the event, families and NICU graduates ranging from six weeks to nine months old reunited with the nurses and neonatologists who cared for the newborns during their first few days, celebrating their growth and milestones.
